John Zorn
American composer born in 1953 in New York.
John Zorn has composed numerous works based on the exploration of a wide variety of genres, including jazz, rock, hardcore punk, classical and improvised music.
Although each of his works may be associated with one of these genres, Zorn is considered an “avant-garde” composer who continually challenges the borders of art in order to create his own distinct musical universe.
He regularly collaborates with artists such as Bill Frisell, Ikue Mori, Joey Baron, Yuji Takahashi, Bill Laswell, Derek Bailey, Haino Keiji, Yamantaka Eye, Fred Frich, William Winant, Marc Ribot, Mick Harris, Yoshida Tatsuya and Anthony Coleman. His music is performed throughout the world. He has been commissioned by ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet, the American Composers Orchestra, and the WDR Orchestra in Cologne.
