Nissim Schaul

Nissim Schaul est un compositeur de musique pour instruments classiques, et par fois pour des projets de radio ou de film. Dans sa recherche de l’intersection de la tranquillité et les grands gestes, il s’intéresse aux collisions de couleurs – calmes ou violents, complémentaires ou discordants. Actuellement basé à Paris, Nissim a grandi a Raleigh, NC, et a vécu la grande partie de sa vie d’adulte a New York, ou il s’est produit au théâtre Thalia de Symphony Space et au Poisson Rouge. Sa musique a été présentée dans le monde entier, de Reno, Nevada, a la région d’Istrie en Croatie. Sa nouvelle pièce (Restful Waters)(_____ __) a été crée le 1er mai à Urbana, Illinois, par l’ensemble MEANS de Moon Young Ha. Avant d’arriver à Acanthes cette année, Nissim a assisté à Music10 en Suisse, ou il a écrit pour des membres du groupe eighth blackbird. Nissim est diplômé de l’université de Columbia à New York, et il a reçu un master en composition de SUNY-Stony Brook. Il a étudié avec Allain Gaussin, Sheila Silver, Jonathan Kramer, Jonathan Pontier and Jean-Yves Bernhard. Ces-jours-ci il apprend vielle à roue, pour s’amuser. He is interested in collisions of color - peaceful or violent, complementary or clashing - in his search for the intersection between still space and grand gestures. Currently living in Paris, Nissim grew up in Raleigh, NC, and has spent most of his adult life in New York City, where his work has been performed at Symphony Space’s Thalia Theatre and Le Poisson Rouge. His work has been performed around the world, from Reno, Nevada to Croatia (Istria). His new work (Restful Waters)(_____ __) was premiered on May 1 in Urbana, Illinois, by Moon Young Ha’s MEANS ensemble. On his way to Acanthes this year, Nissim attended Music10, in Switzerland, where he wrote for members of eighth blackbird. Nissim has a BA in music from Columbia University and an MA in composition from SUNY-Stony Brook. He has studied with Allain Gaussin, Sheila Silver, Jonathan Kramer, Jonathan Pontier and Jean-Yves Bernhard. He is currently learning to play the vielle à roue (French hurdy-gurdy), just for fun.
