Of Sirayan descent (an aboriginal people of Taiwan), Sandra Wuan-Chin Li began studies of music theory, piano, and Electone with her father, Professor Mao-sung Lee. She went on to study at the Music Department at Suzhou University (Taiwan), at the Tainan University of Technology (Taiwan), and at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, from where she graduated with a Master of Music. In 2004, she was invited to present her research in a lecture titled “A Performer’s Musicological Research on Performing Interactive Computer Music” at the International Computer Music Conference.

Sandra Wuan-Chin Li was the keyboard player in Indulge Ensemble and in the metal band Chthonic. She has composed for the television documentary Unknown Taiwan, produced by the Discovery Channel, and was the artistic director of the musical comedy Dark Baroque.

Her music frequently explores the concept of “composing in real time,” drawing upon visual arts, experimental film, and diverse performance practices. Her works have been performed at international events such as WOCMAT (Workshop on Computer Music and Audio Technology), New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, ICMC, klingt gut! Symposium on Sound in Hamburg, and at the New York Philharmonic Biennal. Her musical setting of the film L’Arrivée (1998) by Peter Tscherkassky was presented at ManiFeste in 2019.

She is currently a curator of sound and music at the Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre in Taipei, and is a faculty member at Fu-Jen University in Taiwan.
