Isabelle Aboulker was born in Paris in 1938. Very early in her career, while still studying composition at the Conservatoire de Paris, she began scoring music for theater and film.

After obtaining a premier prix (diploma with highest honors) in Henriette Puig-Roget’s accompaniment class, Aboulker went on to accompany numerous singers, embarking on a dual career path of pianist and composer.

In 1979, the success of her first lyric work, Les Surprises de l’Enfer, inspired Aboulker to compose almost exclusively for voice and musical theater. Her work includes songs, choral compositions, chamber operas, children’s operas, and musicals.

Her catalog includes some twenty lyric compositions, including multiple Commandes d’Etat (commissions from the French Ministry of Culture).

Isabelle Aboulker taught voice students at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and is the author of many educational works.
