Eun-Hwa Cho was born in South Korea in 1973. She studied at Seoul National University College of Music with Chang Cheng-Ick, and then, starting in 2000, with Hanspeter Kyburz at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

Her compositions have been performed at major festivals such as the Seoul International Festival of Contemporary Music (2002), the Ultraschall Festival für neue Musik in Berlin (2003), Festival Acanthes (2003), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt (2004), Paxos Spring Music Festival (2006) in Greece, and Music Today 21 in Tokyo (2006), as well as by ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, the Molinari Quartet, the Ensemble Modern, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, and Ensemble TIMF.

Eun-Hwa Cho was awarded the Hanns-Eisler-Preis in Berlin in 2002 and the Weimarer Frühjahrstage für zeitgenössische Musik in 2003. She won second prize in the Molinari Quartet’s international composition competition in Montreal in 2005, the Busoni Kompositionspreis (Berlin, Akademie der Künste) in 2008, the the Grand Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium for Composition in 2008 for Agens for violin and orchestra (2007-2008), and the Grand Prize at the Korea Composition Awards in 2014.

Jouissance de la différence II, a commission from the Ensemble Intercontemporain, premiered in October 2011.

Eun-Hwa Cho is a professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns-Eisler in Berlin.
